On public benches

On public benches

on public benches

As part of the Design Studio Concept, Groupe Sensation Mode, the creators and organizers of the MFDF, announce the official launch of ‘’Sur les bancs publics’’:the Montreal sit-in, an innovative project whose purpose is to extend the outreach of Montreal designers into the daily life of residents and tourists alike, while enhancing the city’s urban landscape.

Over the next 7 years, 5 industrial design artists will be invited to present their interpretation of 5 of Montreal’s public benches located in a specific location.  Thus, by 2017, 35 of the city’s benches will be transformed into true works of art, and in the process, they will create a route inviting discovery as well as a legacy celebrating Montreal 2017.

Many of the world’s great cities have opted for artistic elements reflecting their city, culture and values by creating emblems.  Among those that come to mind are San Francisco’s heart, Amsterdam’s elephant, and Berlin’s bear.  Now Montreal will have it's public benches!  With its functional and practical nature, this concept would offer the city a unique visual signature.

The Montreal Fashion and Design Festival wishes to express its sincere thanks to Tourisme Québec, the Quebec Ministry of Municipal Affairs, Regions and Land Occupancy (MAMROT - ministère des Affaires municipales, des Régions et de l’Occupation du territoire du Québec), and the Ville-Marie Borough for their support and vision in this major rallying project.
